Chris, great note. How can one not love both versions? Did you consider posting the German original (?) as sung by Ute Lemper? Youtube has a staged version sung by Lemper, but we do not see Ute singing it. She is a fabulous singer of Kurt Weill’s music.
Gracias viejo! Douglas

I was just doing some research on Ruben Blades and Mack the Knife, and I came upon your site. I am trying to confirm a recent edit to the Mack the Knife article on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_the_Knife), in which an editor added this Ruben Blades song. Unfortunately, he did not add a reference. So, here I am, trying to sort it out.
I am very happy that I happened to find this blog.
Cheers!
